Phase II

Phase II is a lengthy behavioral interview designed to examine you with 13 different questions. You need to prepare your answers in advance based on the preparation sheets given to you by the Applicant Coordinator as well as the pre-Phase II briefing. If you don't have a briefing, you're screwed, trust me!

There's also a Phase II written exercise. I'm considering writing my own that does not reveal anything proprietary, and you can take that test as preparation. Beyond that I'm not prepared to talk about that portion of the test except to say that it tests the applicant's ability to draw inferences from partial information.

I'm in the process of analyzing the preparation materials to see what I should post on here. I'll start with the preparation matrix, which according to Field Office staff goes to the absolute limit of what they can tell applicants about the interview. I cannot disclose how closely the actual interview conformed with these instructions, as the questions are subject to a NDA. I can say that this preparation worksheet was the most helpful aspect of my preparation. There are 13 questions on the interview (not a secret) and 10 areas on this form...you do the math.

What I did was write out my answers in Situation Action Result format in advance, read them out loud for timing purposes, and then went spontaneously in the interview. It worked well; it was the best interview of my life! Of my life!

So, here's the chart from the Field Office:

Note: talking about what you learned reportedly gives you bonus points!

Clearly, there is not enough space on the form to write out your complete answers. Just type them out in your favorite word processor. I'll try to find an example answer that doesn't reveal the question or too much info about me, and I'll post it up here.
